Why Faheem Ashraf was not granted Central Contract 2022-23?

Pakistan’s fast bowling all-rounder Faheem Ashraf missed out from PCB’s Central Contracts 2022-23, and the fans were in shock to see his absence. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board has acknowledged fans’ bashes as the chief selector Mohammad Wasim responded to local media in regards.

According to the sources, Wasim says if Ashraf is not in the contracts, it does not mean that the board is not considering him for future plans. To prove his point, the selector maintained that the all-rounder is also named in the squad in the upcoming Sri Lanka series despite not being in the Central Contracts 2022-23 list.

Wasim believes to be on the contracts list, multiple factors, including domestic appearances, fitness, and performances over 12 months, are concerned. And if the players fail to meet the criteria, they might not necessarily make it to the list.

His statements read,

“Playing for the team does not guarantee a player’s inclusion in the central contracts. The criteria are straightforward, including performance over the previous 12 months, our plans for the next 12 months, and the role in the team, as well as the automatic selection,”

“It further includes other factors like commitment, fitness, and the extent of participation in the domestic circuit. Nobody said that Faheem isn’t a part of our future plans. The biggest proof of this is that he is accompanying the team on their tour to Sri Lanka,”
