Usman Khawaja returns to red-ball cricket after more than two years

Usman Khawaja returns to red-ball cricket after more than two years

After the entire Australian squad has tested COVID-19 negative, the SCG Test of the Ashes 2021-22 is set to take place. Despite the entire squad testing negative, Travis Head tested positive a day ago which left him in isolation in Melbourne.

To compensate for the vacancy, Cricket Australia (CA) has named Usman Khawaja in the crew, the Pakistan-born Australian cricketer, who is making his comeback to Test cricket after more than two years.

Khawaja lastly played a red-ball contest back in 2019 during the ICC Test Championship at Leeds versus England. He did not inspire much then but is optimistic to slam a hundred during the fourth Test fulfilling Head’s slot in the squad.

If or not Head will return for the final test is not confirmed yet. Khawaja may render his services in the last test too in case of Travis’ unavailability.

Notably, Australia already have won the Ashes 2021-22 triumphing the first three games with two more to go.
