Suresh Raina to join IPL 2022 commentary box

Suresh Raina, known as Mr. IPL for his great records and years-old legacy, is set to join the commentary panel of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022). He will be beside Ravi Shastri, the former Indian coach, who has not been seen in the league’s commentary box since 2017 due to his national commitments.

Raina remained unsold in the two-day IPL 2022 mega auction which took place at Bengaluru. His vast fan line-up was shatered into pieces after Day 1 of action with some hopes to see any of the ten franchises picking him on the final Day. However, none of the ten teams opted for him.

It must be noted Raina has been rendering his services to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since IPL’s inception in 2008 despite the two-year ban on the Yellow team. His bond with the captain MS Dhoni and the team is so loyal, that is visible on social media. Raina announced retirement from international cricket days after Dhoni bid farewell to his role in 2020.

After whatever happened between Raina and CSK, he was retained in the next season. But, failed to deliver any performance in all 12 games. For the IPL 2022, he is not even in the replacement pool following many players are opting out of the league for several reasons.

Raina will be doing Hindi commentary alongside Shastri. It is learned the ex-coach is taking Zoom sessions by an expert to have the grip on Hindi commentary. It will be first time Shastri will experience language other than English in his commentary.
