Rishabh Pant breaks Kapil Dev's record

India’s wicketkeeping batter Rishabh Pant has broken the past record of legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev in becoming the fastest national batsman to Test fifty. Slamming the record-breaking fifty versus Sri Lanka on Day 2 of the second Test match at Chinnaswamy stadium, the player raised the bat only on facing 28 balls.

Earlier, Dev became the fastest to Test fifty in just 30 deliveries in the Indian circle against Pakistan. He is followed by Shardul Thakur who took 31 balls to smash a half-ton against England last year at the Oval. Also, the former cricketer Virender Sehwag is among the list who added a 32-ball fifty versus England in Chennai.

Pant has also scripted a record for becoming the fastest wicketkeeping batter to Test fifty breaking the former record of Ian Botham and MS Dhoni. Both the veterans’ wicketkeeping batsmen brought their Test fifties in just 34 deliveries.

As far as Pant’s cricketing career is considered, he came into the limelight in 2017 in the shortest format. The player has donned the Indian jersey 43 times in T20Is gathering 683 runs. Whereas, featuring in 2018 in ODIs, and Tests, he has amassed 715 and 1831 runs respectively.
