Pakistan thrashed away West Indies in the opening ODI of the three-match series that started on Wednesday, June 8th. The win was not the only thing to celebrate for the men in green and the fans, but Babar Azam’s new records equally mattered.
He stood in his 13th inning as a captain and completed the 1000-run mark. It makes Babar the fastest to 1000 ODI runs as the skipper surpassed Virat Kohli’s record. The former Indian captain achieved the feat in his 17th inning followed by AB De Villiers and Kane Williamson who did so in 20th and 22nd inning.
Moreover, he also became the fastest in the 17th ODI century. Clicking the thrilling century during Pak vs WI 1st ODI, Azam also surpassed 1000 runs in the World Cup Super League 2022-23 and is the top scorer on the table with 1005 runs. Notably, he is now the only player to cross the 1000-run mark in World Cup Super League.
As if it was not enough, it is to note that his hundred yesterday was the third consecutive in the 50-over format. It makes him the only player to score three back-to-back centuries in the format on two occasions. Before Pak vs WI 1st ODI that took place on 8th June, he slammed two centuries against Australia in the recent home series in April. Earlier, he did it against the West Indies in 2016
