Umar Akmal’s 7-year old record of being Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in the Vitality T20 Blast on debut is now broken as the wicketkeeping batter Mohammad Rizwan dethrones him.
Rizwan, who is representing Sussex in the T20 blast, slammed an unbeaten 81 in the team’s opening match versus Glamorgan. Earlier, back in 2015, Akmal scored 76 for Leicestershire, which was yet the highest score by any Pakistani on debut in the tournament until Rizwan surpassed the feat.
Pakistan’s current first-choice wicketkeeping batter’s innings included three sixes and six fours at a strike rate of 135. He single-handedly helped the team to compile 150 in the first inning as the rest of the batters met early collapse. However, the effort went fruitless after Sussex bowlers failed to defend their target.
Concerning Umar, he has been nowhere around international cricket due to his tainted past and recent ban that finally has been lifted. In the recent developments, he has been summoned by the High-Performance Center alongside Sohaib Maqsood, Sharjeel Khan, and Haris Sohail for a fitness test upon fans’ demands.
