Making no money for a year won’t let BCCI suffer, says Shoaib Akhtar on IPL cancelation
The former Pakistani fast bowler, Shoaib Akhtar believes that making no money for a year won’t let the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) suffer as they are making continuous cash from 2008.
As the IPL 2021 is canceled amidst the COVID blows in the country, the BCCI mulls over rescheduling it as soon as possible and even was not ready to call off the T20 league.
For this reason, the board has been under immense criticism. As IPL is the world’s cash-richest league, the board does not want to miss any chance as they hunt for a new window.
Shoaib, who earlier advised to call off IPL, says that it was due to the emotions of being a humble neighbor. He added that people are dying in India with over 4 lakh cases reported per day. Shoaib believes that it is not the time to mull over IPL.

“When I said a couple of weeks ago that the IPL should be stopped this year, there were emotions behind it. And it was that there is a national catastrophe that is taking place in India. People are dying. And I made the appeal because there were 4 lakh cases being reported a day. During such times, IPL cannot take place, the pomp and show cannot take place,”
I didn’t have difficulty with people not making cash. People have been making money since 2008. If they don’t make money for a year, what difficulties will they get into? People are dying and you cannot have pomp and show. It’s a national disaster. So as a neighbor, I was beseeching that the IPL should be suspended.”

He said it already was not a green signal to commence the league despite India’s alarming situation. Clearing that India and Pakistan are not safe at the moment, he believes the countries’ franchise cricket should have initiated at England or UAE with proper bio-bubble.
As an example, he said that PCB maintained a bio-bubble but it was of no use as early breaches were reported.
“IPL was never viable. We made a bio-secure bubble in the PSL and it completely flopped. India tried and the same happened there. In UAE and England, we would have had it. Over here, even people working in hotels are not safe. They don’t remain in the bio-secure bubble. International cricket can take place in a bubble, but not franchise cricket because the entire world comes. The IPL is not a small event,”
