The Women’s Hundred ended up choosing Dane Van Niekerk’s Oval Invincibles as the trophy winners for its inaugural version. Undoubtedly, the team has been doing wonders throughout the tournament and finally overpowered the Southern Brave in the final showdown on Saturday.
Brave, who were the foremost favorites to clinch The Hundred’s maiden title for women, lost as Invincibles stormed them to a 48-run defeat at Lord’s.
Niekerks’ team put up a decent total of 122 on the scoreboard and restricted Anya Shrubsole’s Brave on 73 as a consequence of flawless bowling during the second inning.
The South African duo of Niekerk, Marizanne Kapp, that share memorable moments on the national field since 2009, combined the party in the women’s hundred too as it blistered in the final together.
Kapp added 26 off just 14 deliveries whereas, Niekerk took 29 balls to score the same runs. Later, when Anya’s women came on the field to bat, Kapp struck with the bowl too, showing 4 Braves their way back via her outclass bowling registering the tournament’s best bowling figure of 4-9.
The duo once again has become the match-winner altogether as Kapp & Van Niekerk earlier won the Big Bash League (BBL) featuring Sydney Sixers and KSL Super League for Surrey Stars.
The Proteas players, Kapp & Van Niekerk have accumulated 2115, 1839, and 2017, 986 runs respectively in ODIs, T20Is since 2009. Notably, Niekerk’s leading experience of captaining the South Africa national team propelled Oval Invincibles towards The hundred’s title.
