The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed the venues for the playoffs of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022). Currently, the round-robin is taking place across four venues in two cities Maharashtra-Mumbai, and Pune named Wankhede, Brabourne, DY Patil Sports Academy, and the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
After the season’s schedule was announced, the venues for the playoffs were to be named later with the speculation that Lucknow and Ahmedabad will get the hosting rights. However, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has turned the rumours citing ‘Lucknow’ as IPL 2022 playoffs venue, confirming Ahmedabad’s and Kolkata’s venues for the matches.
As far as the crowd in knockout and final matches is concerned, the BCCI has decided to welcome a house full at Kolkata and Ahmedabad. Lucknow, however, has got the hosting rights for the Women’s T20 Challenge which will be played from May 24 to May 28 at Ekana Stadium. Ganguly, as quoted by India TV, commented that,
“As far as the men’s IPL knock-out stage matches are concerned, it would be held in Kolkata and Ahmedabad, with hundred per cent attendance allowed for the matches to be played after the league staged finishes on May 22. The Women’s Challenger series will be held between May 24-28 at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium,”
Mentioning the schedule for the knockout matches, the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator will be contested at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 24 and 26 while Qualifier 2 and the final will be played in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on May 27 and 29 respectively.
