The second consecutive defeat for India in the Super 4 stage of Asia Cup 2022 have almost ended their chances to qualify for the event’s final. The men in blue first lost to Pakistan and then to Sri Lanka, in the very same fashion that finished the game in their opposition’s batter.
The toss ended in Sri Lanka’s favour and turned out fruitful as usual on the UAE pitch. They opted to chase and conceded 173 runs plucking eight wickets, wanting to make 174 in the next inning. The batters were even more efficient than the bowlers as the openers put a solid start with brilliant 50s.
After the openers collapsed, skipper Shanaka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa took charge to finish the game with their smokey batting. Shanaka’s 33 from 17 deliveries trembled Indian bowlers. In the end, with two of two needed, the captain made sure to run for two, sparing a ball and almost booking the grand finale slot for the team.
India, who are almost out of the event, will wish Pakistan to lose versus Afghanistan on 7th September. Whereas they will look to defeat Afghanistan themselves with a heavy margin to improve their NRR on the points table. In case Pakistan win vs Mohammad Nabi’s men, they will be facing Sri Lanka in the final.
