Afghanistan has become the first team to qualify for Asia Cup 2022 Super fours after winning two back-to-back encounters. The team’s heroics in both departs were visible throughout their Group Stage stint.
They first met hosts Sri Lanka in the tournament’s openers on August 27th. On winning the toss, Mohammad Nabi wisely opted to chase and discarded all SL’s batters on a low score of 105.
With the courtesy of their bowling line-up, including Fazalhaq Farooqi, Nabi himself, and Mujeeb ur Rehman, they did not let Sri Lankan batters stay on the field for longer. Later, they portrayed brilliancy whilst chasing as openers Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz single-handedly reached the feat, almost including 17 runs from two Zadrans.
Facing Bangladesh in their second match, they made sure to book their place in the Super fours. The opposition’s decision to bat first turned out to be fruitful for Afghanistan as they trembled Shakib Al Hasan’s batters. However, Bangladesh spared three wickets but could put a target of 128 on the board.
With a terrific batters line-up, it looked like a piece of cake for Nabi’s men. Although the openers did not do much, Najeebullah Zadran’s 43 from 17 balls did wonders for them in 18.3 overs. Notably, leg-spinner Rashid Khan, and Mujeeb, shared six wickets among them equally from their side.
