Women PSL to be launched in 2023

A contest like men’s Pakistan Super League is all set to be launched next year for the girls in green, most likely, under the name of Women PSL. Tania Malik, the head of the Pakistan Women Cricket Team, announced the news after Mr. Ramiz Raja, who is the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), confirmed the initiative.

Raja, during the early days of his appointment as a chairman, hinted that there will be a PSL-like contest for Pakistan Women and the U19 Cricket Teams. As of now, he has given green signals to the Women PSL to be launched in 2023.

The tournament could have been played later in the calendar year but due to the cricket-occupied window, the PCB had to postpone the idea. With the launch of Women PSL, the PCB will become the first Asian cricket board to initiate a women’s T20 league. Other countries, like Australia, are successfully running the big leagues such as the Women’s Big Bash League.

While announcing the news, Tania paid special tribute to Southern Punjab Cricket Association for giving an extra boost to hindered women’s cricket in Pakistan. A match in regards will be played on Women’s Day, 4th March, between SP and Sindh.

The initiative is undeniably excellent and will give girls in green a platform to showcase their skills, experience world-class names within the realm, and join the worldwide cricketing leagues. Unlike other countries, cricket in Pakistan for women has not been doing wonders. The new motive is to be competitively equivalent and known among the fraternity.

Tania also praised Pakistan’s Women Cricket team for winning both warm-up matches of the ICC World Cup 2022 set to begin from 4th March. Currently, Bismah Maroof and co are in New Zealand to participate in the event. They all must be cheering on listening to the happy news.
