12, 14, 1, 10, 40, 0, 2, and 13 – nothing, you are just looking at the last ten ODI scores of Mohammad Rizwan.
Rizwan, the wicketkeeping Pakistani batsman, certainly has terrific performances in all three formats of cricket since his inclusion. He is one of the very few batsmen to owe centuries in all three formats of cricket.
Despite his accomplishments and leadership skills, he has been failing to convey what is expected from him in the ODI squad. Since he registered his maiden ODI hundred vs South Africa earlier this year, he is yet to deliver eye-catching performances in the format.
His induction highly hints at adding experience and stability in Pakistan’s ODI squad, but the purpose stays vacant whilst glancing at his performances in the last eight matches.
Is Mohammad Rizwan’s inclusion threatening to Pakistan’s ODI squad?
As Pakistan vs England 1st ODI commenced at Cardiff, Sophia Gardens, the watchers expected terrific performances from Pakistan’s end versus the English newbies. Notably, the seven big names from the hosts’ squad were pulled out amidst the COVID-19 positive cases.
Consequently, it was speculated that the newcomers, who are extremely new to the ODI format, maybe failed versus the Pakistani batters indicating a mix of experience and raw talent. But, it turned out to be an assumption only as the men in green collapsed on the lowest total of 141 at Cardiff.
The performances of Rizwan, Babar Azam the captain, Sohaib Maqsood the comebacker, and Saud Shakeel the debutant, were highly anticipated, but all of them failed to inspire the masses.
