Cricket Australia (CA) is in an agreement with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) to host a tri-series between the three nations. With an aim of letting India and Pakistan meet on the battleground of cricket, CA CEO Nick Hockey says they are ready to trigger the initiative.
Pakistan and India have not faced each other in a bilateral series since 2012 when the men in green toured the men in the blue realm. The arch-rivals now only see each other in the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) events. Their last meeting was back in T20 World Cup 2021. Similarly, before that, the rivals met in the Asia Cup 2018 and ODI World Cup 2019 sequentially.
Hockley added that the craze among people to watch Ind vs Pak is always at its peak. He has also offered an open opportunity to host the tri-series that is under planning. However, with the ICC Future Tour Programs (FTP) already planned till 2023, any such series can be on the cards after 2023.
Talking in a post-match conference after the Rawalpindi Test between Australia and Pakistan, Hockley stated,
Personally, I really like the tri-nation series concept. It’s worked well in the past. We’d be open to hosting matches. There are really big communities of India and Pakistan living in Australia. It’s a contest that everyone wants to see in world cricket and if we can help support further opportunities, we would love to do that,”
