Brendan Taylor tells how Indians misused him

Brendan Taylor, the former Zimbabwean cricketer who feels he will be handed over a multi-year ban by the International Cricket Council (ICC) has narrated a whole story of how he was fooled by the Indians.

The former Zimbabwean captain has stated that he was called to India to sign a deal following the launch of a T20 league in Zimbabwe. The Indian businessman offered him $15,000 for the deal. After the deal was done, the concerned members in the hotel did a celebratory dinner that night. Brendan was offered drinks and cocaine as the crew enjoyed the night.

The plot was exposed at the point when the Indian businessman entered Brendan’s room that night showing him his cocaine’s consuming video they captured to threaten the player. Brendan was told if he does not spot-fix, the video will be leaked. The cricketer was offered $20,000 more for fixing.

“We had drinks and during the course of the evening they openly offered me cocaine, which they themselves engaged in, and I foolishly took the bait.

The following morning, the same man stormed into my hotel room and showed me a video taken of me the night before doing cocaine and told me if I did not spot fix at international matches for them, the video would be released to the public.”

Abruptly being dragged to the horrendous point, Brendan, however, took those $15,000 and did not deny what they wanted following his family’s safety. He used the money to get back to his country. In the story he has exposed about those Indian businessmen, he tells that he did not spot fix and respect the beautiful game of cricket.

“I have never been involved in any form of match-fixing. I may be many things but I am not a cheat. My love for the beautiful game of cricket far outweighs and surpasses any threats which could be thrown my way.”

The ICC is to release the statement on the case in a short course. Hence, Brendan feels it was appropriate to narrate his side of the story. He tells he flew to India to final the tournament deal for $15,000 since Zimbabwean cricketers were not paid for half a year.

Brendan, who is in hot water, advises others to report such matters to ICC instantly as his ban is likely to be a consequence of not reporting to the global body at the earliest. The former captain reported the incident to the ICC four months later.

“I acknowledge this was too long of a time but I thought I could protect everyone and in particular, my family. I approached the ICC on my own terms and I hoped that if I explained my predicament, my genuine fear for our safety and wellbeing, they would understand the delay.
